Central Government Employees DA hike of July 2017 lowest in 17 years

Cabinet of India has released official notification for hiking DA of all central government employees by 1 percent with effect from 01 July 2017. DA is an essential component for all salaried employees as it eases the inflation effect on employees.

Today's announcement of DA hike government employees by 1 percent is the lowest hike in last 17 years. In the year 1999 the DA was increased by 1% by the then government. After 1999, DA was at least raised by 2% in any given announcement of DA hike. This time as expected by most of the central government employees, DA is hiked by 1 percent which will be effective from July 2017.

Current DA rate of Central Government Employees

Currently after the hike of DA by the government, total current rate of DA is 5 percent with effect from July 2017. Earlier cumulative DA was 4%.

State governments may also follow the same suit to announce DA for the sate government employees.

After implementation of 7th Pay commission for government employees, DA hike is reduced considerably due to fixation of higher basic pay and also due to low inflation in India.

The latest announcement of DA increase by 1 percent to all central government employees is worked out with the seventh pay commission's recommended and accepted formula.

With this announcement of DA hike, 49.26 lakh Central Government employees and 61.17 lakh pensioners will be benefitted in the form of increased salary.
