Indian Navy has designed and developed low-cost contactless temperature sensor to help to screen for COVID-19 virus. Check out more about indigenous low cost temperature gun developed by Indian Navy.

Indian Navy designs low cost thermal gun for screening COVID-19

What is Temperature Gun?

Use of temperature guns has become very common amid CORONA-19 virus outbreak all over the world. The thermal gun is a handheld IR (Infra Red) based temperature sensor which is used to measure body temperature without touching the person whose temperature needs to be checked.

Why temperature guns are being used?

Currently, due to widespread COVID-19 Coronavirus across the globe, temperature guns are becoming handy for the thermal screening of human beings at various places such as airports, railway stations, bus stations, malls, schools, government/private offices, factories etc where it is very essential to screen for body temperature to eliminate/minimise the risk of COVID-19 spread. As thermal guns are contactless thermal screening devices that work on IR technology to measure body temperature.

Indian Navy's Low-Cost Thermal Screening Temperature Gun

Today Indian Navy has designed and developed a low-cost handheld thermal screening temperature gun which has been manufactured under a paltry amount of Rs. 1000/- only. The development has been done at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai amid the increased requirement of thermal screening temperature guns for effective screening of all personnel working in the Indian Navy. Presently the similar type of Thermal Guns are being sold at very high prices and availability of these thermal guns is also a big issue.

As sentries are screening all persons who are entering into the Indian Navy's campuses, this handheld IR based thermal guns will be handy for effective screening. Apart from effective screening, the safety of sentries is also achieved through the usage of thermal guns.

Accuracy of these thermal guns is 0.02 degrees Celsius which mean they are as accurate as of the commercially available thermal guns and runs on 9 Volts battery. With the help of the IR sensor, the thermal gun measures the temperature and then the reading is displayed on an LED display that has been placed on the gun.

How does the Indian Navy's newly designed Thermal Gun be useful for rest of India?

In our country, the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus is still at the nascent stage and in this stage itself, handheld thermal guns have vanished from markets and online e-Commerce websites. Due to this, many sellers are selling thermal guns at much higher prices. So if in future, Indian requires more thermal guns, the Indian Navy will start manufacturing the thermal guns on a large scale and will be able to provide the thermal guns for as cheap as Rs. 1000/- for anyone who needs it.

With this newly designed handheld thermal gun, the Indian Navy has proved that in times of need it can innovate and produce the required equipment at a reasonably lesser cost.
